Pre-Purchase Survey
The pre-transaction survey constitutes an essential preliminary step in any acquisition project. It is conducted in the interest of the yacht owner to secure the investment and ensure that the asset complies with the agreed price.
In this context, we prepare a detailed technical report, developed in accordance with the requirements of the European Declaration of Conformity (EDC), where applicable. The survey also covers verification of the proper functioning of equipment and compliance with applicable standards and references, notably ISO standards (EN and NF), relevant to the vessel.
Special attention is given to compliance with ISO standards directly applicable to onboard safety. In particular, the survey evaluates conformity with ISO 15085 concerning fall-overboard prevention, ISO 9094 regarding fire protection, and ISO 9093, which defines requirements for openings in the hull, deck, and superstructures.
For reference, our reports typically range from 260 to 300 pages for a 60-foot sailing yacht.
Included in the pre-transaction survey:
-
Battery tests: The survey assesses the condition of the installations, particularly the age of the batteries and their remaining cycle life, without consideration of the instantaneous voltage.
-
Oil tests: This evaluation includes the analysis of engine, generator, and hydraulic system(s) oils.
Optional services within the pre-transaction survey:
-
Energy assessment of the vessel: Preparation of a detailed report on energy consumption and proper sizing of the onboard electrical system.
-
Osmotic survey: see above.
The pre-transaction survey is strictly non-destructive. It does not involve any intervention on floors, panels, or structural elements requiring tools for access. Consequently, yacht owners are expressly advised, if they wish, to entrust the execution of such operations to the vessel’s crew under their authority.
Pre-Insurance Survey
The pre-insurance survey is intended for yacht owners who wish to update the value of their insurance policy following a complete refit or a substantial modification of the vessel. In this context, a detailed report is prepared, focusing exclusively on the work carried out and the changes made to the vessel, in order to ensure their compliance and their impact on the insurance valuation.
Construction Supervision
Whether the unit is built according to a standardized (“series”) process or custom-made, its implementation requires rigorous and objective monitoring of all construction stages. As part of our services, and on behalf of the yacht owner, we verify compliance with the specifications as well as with the applicable regulatory framework.
Our report aims to confirm compliance or, where applicable, to highlight any non-compliance by the shipyard with its contractual obligations in carrying out the project.
Osmotic Survey
The osmotic survey is carried out on behalf of yacht owners and insurance companies. This mission aims to assess the moisture content in the composite materials making up the hull.
It is expressly brought to the yacht owner’s attention that this survey is destructive in nature, requiring the mechanical removal of antifouling and gelcoat layers in order to access the underlying polyester fiber.
In accordance with established procedures, and subject to the calibration of the measuring instrument according to ambient temperature and humidity during the various samples, we will prepare a report specifying the moisture levels detected on the hull and appendages. The report will include recommendations and procedures to follow based on the results obtained.
The survey report is provided within the limitations inherent to the destructive method used and without prejudice to the legal and contractual responsibilities of the yacht owner or the shipyard. Any interpretation or use of this report must strictly adhere to the purposes defined and the conditions of the mission.
Damage Survey
Damage surveys are carried out exclusively at the request of insurance companies. Operations cover the entire Spanish Mediterranean coast as well as the Balearic Islands.
All surveys are conducted in accordance with the principles of independence and impartiality, and the information and reports produced are handled with the utmost confidentiality. These reports are prepared to serve as precise, technically substantiated, and legally admissible documents, intended to provide a reliable reference for the contracting parties and the competent authorities.
